Eskimos' John White named CFL offensive player of the week
TORONTO - Eskimos running back John White was named CFL offensive player of the week Tuesday after helping Edmonton to an 18-10 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in last weekend's West Division semifinal.
White had 17 carries for 134 yards and added two receptions for 14 yards. His 148 total yards accounted for 64 per cent of the Eskimos' total offence.
Kick returner Kendial Lawrence earned the special teams player of the week honour and another teammate, defensive tackle Gregory Alexandre, was named top Canadian.
Lawrence scored Edmonton's game-winning touchdown on an 84-yard punt return. He had 10 returns and finished with 156 combined return yards.
Alexandre, meanwhile, had two sacks. It was the Montreal native's first multi-sack game of his career.
Montreal's Jerald Brown was named defensive player of the week after recording five tackles, an interception, a knockdown, a fumble recovery and a touchdown in the Alouettes' 50-17 rout of the B.C. Lions in the East Division semifinal.
