Alouettes stomp Ray-less Argos
The Toronto Argonauts were without quarterback Ricky Ray and the Montreal Alouettes took advantage, defending home field with a 21-9 win over their East Division rivals.
Toronto struggled to ignite its passing game sans Ray, who's on the shelf with a shoulder injury. Jeff Mathews and Cody Fajardo combined for just 142 yards, both failing to push the ball downfield.
The Als got more explosion out of their passing game, as Darian Durant tossed for 237 yards with two touchdowns.
Montreal took an 18-3 lead into halftime and was never threatened in the second half.
Tyrell Sutton led the victors in rushing with 66 yards on 15 carries, while Ernest Jackson had a game-high 74 yards receiving on four receptions with one touchdown.
Argos receiver S.J. Green wasn't much of a factor in his return to Montreal, hauling in four catches for 32 yards. It was a season low in yardage for Green, who was traded to Toronto in the offseason.
Montreal improved to 3-4 with the victory, while Toronto dropped to 3-5.
