The Saskatchewan Roughriders made an unexpected roster move Tuesday, cutting ties with defensive end Jonathan Newsome over what head coach Chris Jones called a "difference of philosophy," according to Riders play-by-play broadcaster Rod Pedersen.
No other details of Newsome's dismissal were immediately given.
The announcement follows the Roughriders' 43-40 home defeat at the hands of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday. Newsome was a regular contributor for the team last season and also recorded an interception in Saturday's loss.
The Roughriders will look to bounce back when they welcome the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to new Mosiac Stadium on Saturday.
