Roughriders trade Darian Durant to Alouettes
In a move that sent shockwaves through the CFL, the Saskatchewan Roughriders traded quarterback Darian Durant to the Montreal Alouettes on Friday for a pair of draft picks.
The Riders will receive a fourth-round draft pick in 2017 along with a conditional second-round selection in 2018 in exchange for the veteran signal-caller.
Durant leaves Regina after spending 11 seasons donning the green and white. He's a two-time All-Star and helped Saskatchewan win the Grey Cup in 2007 and 2013, serving as the starter in the latter.
Injuries limited Durant to one game in 2015, but he returned to see 15 contests this season, throwing for 3,839 yards with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The 34-year-old sits second on the Roughriders' all-time list in passing yards.
Durant is on track to hit free agency later this year, though there's reason to believe he and his new club will work out a deal before that happens.
The Alouettes have struggled to find a viable starting quarterback since Anthony Calvillo's retirement, though rookie Vernon Adams Jr. did show promise after taking over as the starter late in the 2016 campaign.
