Alouettes lose Green for season with torn ACL, MCL, PCL, meniscus
The Montreal Alouettes fell in their home opener to the Ottawa RedBlacks, but the biggest loss from the contest is star receiver S.J. Green.
The 31-year-old suffered a torn ACL, MCL, PCL, and meniscus after landing awkwardly during a catch attempt in the second quarter Thursday, and will be out for the remainder of the campaign.
Green led the Alouettes with 71 catches for 1,036 yards last season, and is arguably the most important piece of the team's offense. The five-time CFL East All-Star showed no signs of slowing down this season, registering 72 yards and a score in the Week 1 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Nik Lewis and Duron Carter turned in big performances after Green departed Thursday, finishing with a combined 177 yards receiving and a touchdown. That will need to continue in order for Montreal to overcome Green's absence.
