Bayern Munich 'relaxed' over Lewandowski future

Bayern Munich top dogs Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Matthias Sammer say the club is "relaxed" despite Robert Lewandowski not yet putting pen to paper on a contract reported to expire in 2021.

The club has already secured the futures of Thomas Muller, Jerome Boateng, and David Alaba for that duration, but the free-scoring Pole is yet to follow suit.

ESPN FC's Stephan Uersfield speculates the standoff could be down to the interest believed to be coming from both Manchester City and Real Madrid.

"I won't comment on contracts because we are not joining the agent's game," Bayern CEO Rummenigge said. "Looking at the contract lengths, we can look to the future relaxed."

Sporting executive Sammer was also laid back about the situation surrounding Lewandowski, whose current deal ties him to the Bavarian giant until the conclusion of the 2018-19 campaign.

"I am optimistic because FC Bayern is a good option. We should be relaxed about this," he told Sky Deutchsland. "To the best of my knowledge no decision has been made."

Lewandowski is expected to feature prominently in Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Benfica. Arjen Robben will be unavailable for the tie with a groin issue, but fellow wing wanderer Kingsley Coman should be available for selection.
