In a move that indicates Mats Hummels is staying put at the Westfalenstadion, Borussia Dortmund announced on Sunday that the centre-back will be their team captain for the 2014-15 campaign.
Hummels was a key component of the Germany squad that won the World Cup in July, scoring two goals and holding down the back line in all but one of Die Mannschaft's seven matches.
He'll take over the captaincy role from veteran midfielder Sebastian Kehl, who stepped down from the post as he enters the final season of his career.
Marco Reus and Roman Widenfeller, meanwhile, will serve as Borussia Dortmund's vice-captains.
