Jurgen Klinsmann was appointed to Hertha Berlin's supervisory board on Friday, ending a near three-year hiatus from football.
The German served as head coach of the United States men's national team for over five years until he was fired in November 2016 after a series of disappointing results following the 2014 World Cup.
"I am delighted to be part of the most exciting football project in Europe," Klinsmann said, with translation from ESPN's Stephen Uersfeld. "Moreover, it's a club I am emotionally invested in."
Klinsmann, 55, was linked with the Ecuador job before accepting a gig with the club his late father supported. Klinsmann's son Jonathan, who plays as a goalkeeper for Swiss side St. Gallen, also made his professional debut for Hertha.
