Klinsmann earns trial with Hertha Berlin

United States Under-20 'keeper Jonathan Klinsmann has been offered a 10-day trial with Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.

Son of former U.S. manager Jurgen Klinsmann, Jonathan, 20, will meet up with the capital club for its preseason training July 3.

Hertha manager Pal Dardai confirmed as much Wednesday, telling German outlet BZ, courtesy of ESPN FC's Stephen Uersfeld, that Jonathan will be included in first-team training and work with the club's goalkeeping coach.

"We want to get to know him, especially our goalkeeping coach Zsolt Petry," Dardai said. "That's why we want to take a look at him."

The elder Klinsmann plied his trade in Germany's top flight with Stuttgart and Bayern Munich, and his son will get a chance to impress Dardai and Co. in hopes of becoming Hertha's third-choice shot-stopper behind Rune Jarstein and Thomas Kraft.

BZ also reports that Jonathan has received offers from second-tier sides Eintracht Braunschweig and Ingolstadt as well as an unnamed Swiss club. He just completed his sophomore year at the University of California and is not affiliated with a club.
