Football is rarely short on context and consequence, and during Saturday's busy tilt marking the end of the Bundesliga campaign, the German top-tier's clubs took a backseat to three veterans.
Bayern Munich stars Philipp Lahm and Xabi Alonso bid football farewell before raucous partisan support at the Allianz Arena, and six hours north-west on the A3, Schalke paid Klaas-Jan Huntelaar a similar tribute at the Veltins-Arena.
