New Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti has quashed reports that Joshua Kimmich could follow Pep Guardiola to Manchester City, saying the 21-year-old will "100 percent" stay at the Allianz Arena.

"Kimmich is our player, he is very important for us," Ancelotti told reporters in Munich. "He will stay with us 100 percent."

Kimmich was subject to an on-pitch grilling from former boss Guardiola last March, but it transpired that the Spanish tactician was impressed with the youngster's performance against Borussia Dortmund. He simply views the player he signed from Red Bull Leipzig last summer as a protege, and his actions weren't part of a disciplinary move.

"I like to work with players who are eager to learn," Guardiola said after the exchange. "He's got the desire, the will, the passion. He's got absolutely everything."

Unfortunately for the former Barcelona and Bayern gaffer, the Kimmich project won't continue in northwest England next season.

Guardiola experimented with Kimmich's role at Bayern last term. Although he was often used as a midfielder in the artist's haven of Leipzig, he was plugged into right-back and the middle of the defence in Bavaria.

Given the much-documented pursuits of centre-halves Aymeric Laporte of Athletic Bilbao, Leonardo Bonucci of Juventus and Everton's John Stones, it wasn't a great surprise to hear Kimmich's name uttered in the same breath of City by British tabloids.

Guardiola will toe the touchline for the first time as City manager against old club Bayern on July 20.
