Inoue outboxed Fulton - who entered the bout as the supposedly superior boxer - with a devastating stab jab to the body mixed with an up jab to draw blood early in the fight.
Fulton had a difficult time gauging distance against Inoue, who landed heavy shots when "Scooter" moved forward. Inoue entered the eighth round seemingly ahead on all scorecards due to a higher workload and punches landed count before knocking out Fulton, who lost the first fight of his career.
With the win, Inoue becomes the 22nd fighter in boxing history to become a four-division champion. The 30-year-old also pushed his record against world champions to 10-0 and is now 20-0 with 18 knockouts in championship fights.
Overall, Inoue is 25-0 with 22 knockouts, while Fulton dropped to 21-1.
