NOTTINGHAM, England - Denis Istomin advanced to the final of the Nottingham Open on Friday when defending champion Marcos Baghdatis retired early in their semifinal match with a left calf injury.

Baghdatis, who was on a nine-match winning streak at the Wimbledon warm-up tournament, was leading 2-1 in the first set when he pulled up after playing a shot. He received treatment and retired.

The No. 92-ranked Istomin will play Sam Querrey of the United States in Saturday's final. Querrey topped Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 during Friday's match to book his spot in the final.

The extent of Baghdatis' injury was not immediately clear. The 2006 Australian Open runner-up was drawn Friday to face U.S. player Donald Young in the first round at Wimbledon.
