China's tennis star Li Na gives birth to a baby girl
BEIJING - Chinese tennis star Li Na has given birth to a baby girl.
The retired, two-time Grand Slam winner released the news of the Wednesday birth on her microblog, posting a footprint picture of her daughter, named Alisa.
The child shares the birthday of Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal, but a tennis career for the child is far from certain. Li has said she would encourage her daughter to take up sports, though not necessarily tennis alone, and quipped that the tennis she reportedly played while pregnant did not amount to ''pre-natal education.''
The most successful Asian tennis player ever, Li won the 2011 French open and the 2014 Australian Open. According to Forbes, she earned $70 million in prizemoney and sponsorship during her peak period of 2010-2014.
