Raonic withdraws from US Open for 2nd time in 3 years
Milos Raonic, once Canada's top-ranked player, withdrew from the US Open on the eve of the year's final Grand Slam due to a glute injury.
This is the second time in three years that Raonic will miss the men's singles tournament in Flushing Meadows. He pulled out of the 2017 tournament with a wrist issue.
Injuries have derailed what was a strong start to the season. Raonic reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open before tweaking his right knee in late March. He missed the French Open but returned to play at Wimbledon, where he advanced to the Round of 16.
The 28-year-old retired during a match at the Rogers Cup earlier in August.
Canada's hopes at the US Open now rest on one of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov, who will face each other in the first round on Tuesday.
