Injuries force Berdych, Kyrgios to end 2017 season prematurely
World No. 18 Tomas Berdych and No. 20 Nick Kyrgios became the latest top players to announce a premature end to their campaign, informing the public, in separate posts, that injuries would force them to sit out the rest of 2017.
Berdych stated he'd dealt with back pain since Wimbledon, where he fell in three sets to Roger Federer in the semifinals. The 32-year-old Czech finished the year with a 35-18 record on the ATP Tour, failing to capture a title for the first time since the 2013 circuit.
Kyrgios withdrew to tend to a nagging hip injury. The Australian finished the year with a 31-16 Tour record with zero titles, though he was a finalist at both the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati and earlier this month at the China Open in Beijing.
