Wozniacki dismantles Loeb in Round 1 of US Open

After reaching her second career Grand Slam final last year at Flushing Meadows, No. 4 Caroline Wozniacki got off to the right start in her hopes to better that effort in 2015 - beating 413th-ranked wild card Jamie Loeb 6-2, 6-0 in the first round Tuesday.

The Dane proved too much for the young American as Wozniacki won 88% of points on first serve and was just as potent receiving, converting five breaks while winning 57 percent of points in Loeb's service games.

Wozniacki's two career Grand Slam finals appearances both came in New York while her only title this season came on hardcourt in Malaysia. The 25-year-old is looking to continue her succes on the surface in the coming weeks.

"I think every year I have high expectations for myself," she said prior to the tournament. "But at the same time, I just really want to get as many matches as possible here. The more matches I get to play, the more matches I get to play in front of this amazing crowd. That's really my motivation.

"I just focus on getting to play one more match out there every time I go out."

Despite capturing the world No. 1 ranking in 2010, a Grand Slam title has continued to elude Wozniacki, and she hopes this can be her moment to finally break through.

"It would mean everything to me," she said. "I won so many things in my career, but a Grand Slam is one of those things that is missing. It would definitely mean a lot to me."

Wozniacki advances to face either Petra Cetkovska or Christina McHale, but will be looking ahead to the quarters where three players that have recently beat her may await - No. 5 Petra Kvitova (New Haven), No. 9 Garbine Muguruza (Wimbledon) and Julia Gorges (French Open).
