Why this Luis Suarez poster is the most popular advertisement in Brazil
Despite the proclivities of sports columnists to veer in the direction of humorless hot takes whenever something significant happens in the world of sports, regular fans tend to have a healthier outlook on these incidents. They're capable of maintaining a sense of playfulness about things.
Never has this been more evident than on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro where an advertising placard for adidas features Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez — he, of scoring lots of goals and biting lots of opponents fame — not ironically bearing his teeth.
Fans are lining up to take their pictures with the poster, framing their photos so as to make it appear that the famous biter is chomping on them.
Our tendency toward misanthropy can often get out of hand, and so it's refreshing to see that some people still understand what the World Cup should be all about: Having fun.
