USA's Roark tosses 4 shutout innings in WBC semis

Kelvin Kuo / USA TODAY Sports

United States right-hander Tanner Roark didn't miss a beat during his semifinal start Tuesday against Japan, despite not having pitched in 10 days.

Roark fired four shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk, and striking out one. He even made a sensational grab on a line drive in the third inning before being replaced to start the fifth with a 1-0 lead.

The 30-year-old last pitched March 11 against the Dominican Republic, allowing three runs in 1 1/3 innings in relief.

It's been a sensational run for the Americans' starting pitching throughout the World Baseball Classic. Danny Duffy, Marcus Stroman, Drew Smyly, Chris Archer, and Roark have combined for a 1.50 ERA over seven outings.
