Mkhitaryan returns for Rostov trip; Rooney, Shaw miss out

Henrikh Mkhitaryan was named in Manchester United's squad for Thursday's Europa League trip to FC Rostov, putting him in line for his first appearance since pulling up with a hamstring complaint in the previous round against Saint-Etienne on Feb. 22.

Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney were not among the travelling throng. The former has struggled with injuries and has been unfancied for much of Jose Mourinho's reign, but completed 70 minutes with Rooney in Saturday's disappointed 1-1 home draw with Bournemouth.

There is no word on whether either of the pair are nursing knocks.

Another player not in the 20-man party is Eric Bailly, who was given his marching orders during the second leg at Saint-Etienne for two yellow cards.

Rostov has lost just one of its seven home matches in Europe, which came last November after a last-gasp winner from Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann in the Champions League group stages.

United's squad for the Round of 16 tilt in Russia:

David De Gea, Sergio Romero, Kieran O'Hara; Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young; Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan; Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
