Zenit St. Petersburg names Mircea Lucescu new manager
Zenit St. Petersburg announced Tuesday the appointment of former Shakhtar Donetsk boss Mircea Lucescu as its new manager on a two-year deal with a third-year option.
The Romanian joins the Russian outfit having brought to a close a 12-year chapter with Shakhtar Donetsk at the end of the 2015-16 season, which included eight domestic titles, six national cups, and a UEFA Cup.
"Zenit wish to welcome Mircea Lucescu to St. Petersburg and wish Mircea many new victories with the blue-white-sky blues!" the club wrote in a statement.
Lucescu replaces former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas, after the Portuguese manager announced his intention to leave the team in September 2015.
However, Lucescu didn't receive quite the same sort of introduction as Villas-Boas did upon his arrival:
