Brendan Rodgers is back in football after being named the new manager of Scottish champion Celtic.

Celtic added that Rodgers, who replaces outgoing manager Ronny Deila, put pen to paper on a 12-month rolling contract.

"I am absolutely delighted to be named Celtic manager," Rodgers told the team's website. "This is genuinely a huge honour for me. I have followed Celtic all my life and to be given this fantastic opportunity and to be part of such a truly great football club is a dream come true.

"I will give my new role everything I have and do all I can to bring our supporters exciting, entertaining and winning football."

It's the Northern Irishman's first job since he was relieved of his duties as Liverpool manager following just over three seasons in charge of the Merseyside outfit.

While the competition in Scotland pales in comparison to the Premier League, the expectations to win silverware will be familiar for Rodgers, who says he hopes to continue the team's winning traditions on the domestic, and continental stages.

"The Club has been in magnificent shape in recent years and has collected silverware regularly during this time. My objective now, of course, is to continue this work, to keep us at the top and again make our mark in Europe," he said.

"I know what a magnificent support Celtic enjoys and I can promise our fans one thing - that I will be doing everything I can to give you a team that you can be proud of and a team that delivers.

"I can't wait to be in Paradise with our team and our fans as we all get to work."

Rodgers follows in the footsteps of another former Liverpool boss to manage Celtic after Reds and Hoops legend Kenny Dalglish made the switch to Parkhead over 15 years ago.

Celtic confirmed in April that Deila's two-year reign as boss would come to an end at the conclusion of the season. The Norwegian leaves the team after collecting two league titles and a Scottish League Cup trophy.
