Colin Montgomerie wins 2nd consecutive Senior PGA Championship

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Colin Montgomerie won his third career major on the Champions Tour as he defended his Senior PGA Championship title with a five-stroke victory at French Lick Resort in Indiana on Sunday.

The World Golf Hall of Famer was the only player in the field to play all four rounds at par or better on the difficult Pete Dye Course. "Monty" finished the tournament at 9-under to become the first player to win back-to-back Senior PGA titles since Hale Irwin did so in 1998.

It was a more difficult day for Ian Woosnam who shot a 9-over 81 on Sunday and was almost hit by an errant tee shot from third-place finisher Woody Austin.

The Senior PGA Championship is the second of five majors on the Champions Tour consisting of golfers over the age of 50.
