Tiger Woods shoots career-worst 82, misses cut at Phoenix Open

Tiger Woods chalked it up as another day at the office, but there was nothing ordinary about this performance.

Woods shot a career-worst 82 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Friday, missing the cut for the second consecutive event and failing to break 80 for the first time since 2002. Woods, who posted a solid opening-round 73 on Thursday, scored his worst 18 holes as a pro after bogeying the final hole.

"We all have days like this," Woods said, according to ESPN. "Unfortunately, mine was in a public forum, a public setting. We all have days like this. We take the good with the bad, and the thing is even on bad days like this, just keep fighting, because on the good days you've got to keep fighting as well."

Woods, competing for just the second time since missing the cut at the PGA Championship in August, struggled mightily through the first nine holes at TPC Scottsdale. The world's former No. 1 matched a career-worst nine-hole score of 44 after recording a triple-bogey, double-bogey and three bogeys on the back nine to start the second round.

"I was more committed to what I was doing on my back nine, hit some better shots, but still have a lot of work to do," Woods said. "It was not a very good day from the start, until the end, but I fought all day."

Woods retired to the clubhouse 13 over par and in last place in the 132-player field. Woods, who entered the tournament ranked 47th, is expected to fall out of the top 50 for the first time in almost four years after his career-worst result.

Despite his poor play, Woods insists his surgically repaired back wasn't to blame for his struggles Friday.

"That's not an issue anymore, I'm fine,'' Woods said.
