Spieth pars No. 12, but makes a mess of 15

Jordan Spieth's walk from to the 12th, and then his tee shot, was what most golf fans wanted to see Thursday after his memorable collapse at the hole last year.

Spieth conquered No. 12, landing his tee shot safely just behind the green, and then got up-and-down for a par, four better than last year's final round.

The young Texan then birdied the par-5 13th and bogeyed the par-4 14th ... but then came the par-4 15th.

The world No. 6 split the fairway, laid up with his second shot, but that was the last decent shot he hit on the hole. Spieth hit his third in the water, and ended up with a quadruple bogey nine.

History is not on the 23-year-old's side:

Spieth would rebound with a birdie on the next hole, the par-3 16th, ironically the same way he did last year after the quadruple-bogey seven at the 12th.
