Europe gashes into U.S. lead on strength of Spanish rally

John David Mercer / USA TODAY Sports

Spaniards Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Sergio Garcia made up four points over the final six holes Saturday at Hazeltine to halve their matchup with Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed and pull Team Europe to within a single point of the United States at the Ryder Cup.

It stands 6.5 to 5.5 through three sessions in favor of the Americans, who preserved their advantage thanks to Brandt Snedeker and Brooks Koepka. The contrasting duo improved to 2-0 for Davis Love III with a win over Henrik Stenson and Matthew Fitzpatrick.

Rory McIlroy and Thomas Pieters won again, defeating Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler, while the Justin Rose-Chris Wood pair held on to beat Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson.

Saturday's Four-Ball begins at 1:30 p.m. ET, with McIlroy and Pieters returning once again to square off with Koepka and Dustin Johnson.
