The United States' Olympic rowing squad will be wearing new uniforms in Rio amid concerns about the quality and safety of the water.
"We put a waterproofing agent on (them) so the suit is waterproof, so even though it is getting wet it doesn't absorb water," Keith Sherill of Charlotte-based textile company Speizman International told WTHR.
"So that being said, it's almost virtually always dry."
A local pediatrician in Rio told Andrew Jacobs of The New York Times that Olympic aquatic athletes will "literally be swimming in human crap" in a story published Tuesday.
An open sewer was spotted near the athletes' village earlier this week.
