2016: The year the NHL All-Star Game was reborn.

After an absolute disaster in Columbus last season, the NHL got it right with its revamped three-on-three format this time around. The league certainly had some help, though, even if it wasn't what they initially wanted.

John Scott put on a show, single-handedly writing one of the best stories hockey has seen in a long time. He headlined a very special, record-setting weekend in the Music City.

Here is a list - in no particular order - of everything that made the 2016 All-Star Game awesome:

1. MVP

From scoring a pair of goals, to dumping and mock-fighting star forward Patrick Kane, to leading his team to victory and being named Most Valuable Player, it was impossible not to admire what Scott did on and off the ice this weekend.

He handled a difficult situation with the utmost class, earning the respect of fans and peers alike in the process.

Most importantly, he made his family proud.

2. Chewbacca and the Sharks

Every team was well represented throughout the weekend, but the San Jose Sharks stood out in a big way.

Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski had their former teammate's back before any other player did this weekend. The duo exemplified what Scott meant to them when they hoisted him - with the help of Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano - following Team Pacific's victory.

Burns himself was a standout all weekend long, demonstrating that you don't need Alex Ovechkin or Sidney Crosby to put on a show.

We'll certainly never forget Chewbacca's NHL debut.

3. The ageless wonder

The festivities were extra special this year thanks to the presence of Jaromir Jagr. Naturally, the ageless forward left a lasting memory with a beautiful breakaway goal against this season's best goalie.

One word: Legend.

4. The NHL needs more players like P.K. Subban

Throughout the weekend, Montreal Canadiens star P.K. Subban showed - as usual - why he's one of the most important players in the league today.

He wore yet another spectacular suit:

And he continued to show that he gets it, in every aspect of the game. All-Star Weekend wouldn't be the same without Subban.

5. The players actually cared

It's obvious that the All-Star Game will never reach the level of a standard NHL game. But for the first time, it was pretty close.

Record TV ratings illustrated that the three-on-three format was a hit with fans, and the players unquestionably agreed.

Quite simply, if the players care, the fans will as well.

6. Speaking of the fans...

Sorry, Patrick Kane, but this was absolutely priceless.

7. A low-scoring affair

The goalies put on a show, which is rare at an All-Star Game, and completely unexpected in a three-on-three format.

Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson and Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick were impressive, combining for a shutout victory in the finals.

Gibson highlighted a great day for the men in the crease, making an epic pad save to set up Taylor Hall's goal at the other end.

9. Strombone

Roberto Luongo's Twitter game was on point once again.

The Florida Panthers' star goalie continued to own the Tampa Bay Lightning both on and off the ice:

10. Sorry for swearing, Canada

From referring to himself as "Segy" to swearing on live television and then apologizing to an entire country, Tyler Seguin mic'd up was so good.

11. A simple reminder that some things are greater than hockey

Denna Laing - who suffered a serious spinal injury during the Outdoor Women's Classic - appeared on the jumbotron during the intermission to speak about what hockey means to her, while offering thanks to all those who have supported her through a lengthy rehabilitation.

Laing's family was also in attendance Sunday, and received a touching standing ovation from the Nashville faithful.

12. The Music City

Nashville put on one hell of a show, both on and off the ice. The Music City certainly delivered a smash hit.

You're up, Los Angeles.
