Bruins' Marchand scores winner after earlier goal overturned

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Despite outshooting the Toronto Maple Leafs 45-29 on the night, the Boston Bruins looked destined for overtime Saturday before Brad Marchand delivered some final-minute heroics.

After having a goal overturned earlier in the game due to an offside, Marchand capitalized with Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier out of his net, as defenseman Martin Marincin's clearing attempt landed right on his stick before he drove home a goal to clinch the Bruins' 3-2 victory.

It was a disappointing finish for Bernier, who allowed goals on both the first and final shots he faced, despite making 42 saves in between. Patrice Bergeron scored both early goals for the Bruins while the Leafs had goals from Shawn Matthias and Leo Komarov, who ended a 10-game goalless drought.

In the other crease, Tuukka Rask ended a five-game winless drought to pick up his first victory of 2016 with a 27-save effort. He also improved his career record against Toronto to 14-3-1 since being traded for Andrew Raycroft in 2006.

The Bruins will look for their third straight win against a division opponent when they visit the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.
