Bernier's misery mounts as Leafs lose to Capitals

Jonathan Bernier dug the Toronto Maple Leafs another insurmountable hole Saturday, allowing four goals on the first 13 shots he faced in a 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals.

Bernier, who was kept in net the entire game, ran his record this season to a shameful 0-8-1, and he heard jeers from fans at the Air Canada Center for failing to keep his team in a game in which they dictated much of the play.

He stated the obvious after the game, saying simply, "I've got to be better," according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston.

James Reimer, who has all seven of the Maple Leafs' victories this season, was unavailable to coach Mike Babcock. He left practice earlier this week to tend to aches and pains.

Braden Holtby, on the other side of the coin, was resolute yet again for the Capitals. He's now riding a seven-game win streak - the longest of his career - after stopping 32 pucks.
