Fantasy: 3 players to watch on the waiver wire

Brace Hemmelgarn / USA TODAY Sports

Every Sunday, we examine three players you should consider picking up from the waiver wire in your pool.

Jets G Connor Hellebuyck: 1-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .933 Sv%

With starting goalie Ondrej Pavelec out of the lineup until sometime in the new year, top prospect Connor Hellebuyck appears set to get his shot at the Winnipeg Jets' No. 1 gig sooner than expected.

Considered one of the best goalies not playing in the NHL prior to being called up, Hellebuyck became a household name after posting a save percentage of .948 in eight games and winning a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2015 World Championships. He also recorded a .924 save percentage in 68 games for the Jets' AHL club after being drafted in the fifth round back in 2012.

Forced to make only 14 saves in his NHL debut, Hellebuyck earned a win over the Minnesota Wild, and with Michael Hutchinson struggling early on, he'll likely draw several starts in December, beginning with a home game Wednesday against Toronto.

Early adopters could be rewarded with a high-end option in net for the remainder of the season.

Bruins D Colin Miller: 2 G, 8 A, +7, 34 SOG

Owned in 21 percent of Yahoo leagues

Colin Miller is on pace to record eight goals, 42 points, 100 penalty minutes, and 141 shots on goal as a rookie defenseman, all while averaging only 15:45 of ice time per game. Acquired by the Boston Bruins in the Milan Lucic trade, Miller is validating general manager Don Sweeney's belief that the hole left by Dougie Hamilton could be filled by an internal option.

Miller was drafted in the fifth round of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings and brought along slowly, remaining in the OHL for a year before appearing in 135 AHL games prior to his NHL debut.

The 23-year-old recorded the most goals by a defenseman in the AHL last season (19), and also won both the hardest shot and fastest skater competitions at the league's All-Star festivities, meaning he's got the tools to be a productive fantasy player.

Miller recorded a goal and two assists in his past two games, and his ice time is going up. Jump on him before it's too late.

Coyotes F Mikkel Boedker: 9 G, 9 A, -4, 62 SOG

Owned in 11 percent of Yahoo leagues

While rookies Max Domi and Anthony Duclair are getting the lion's share of the attention down in the desert - and deservedly so - Mikkel Boedker is quietly putting together a career year.

After a hat trick Saturday against Ottawa, the Arizona Coyotes winger raised his goal total to nine, with an additional nine assists, bringing his point total to 18 through 23 games. As such, the 25-year-old is on pace for 32 goals and 64 points, both of which would smash his previous career highs.

What's very encouraging about Boedker's game this season is his elevated shot rate. On pace for 221 shots on goal, Boedker is averaging 2.7 per game, well up from his career mark of 1.57.

It also helps that Boedker is set to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end, with the old contract year serving as extra motivation to keep things rolling all season long.

At any rate, he's criminally under-owned.
