Jets' Pavelec will not play until 2016 due to 'significant' knee sprain

Bruce Fedyck-USA TODAY Sports

The Winnipeg Jets placed goalie Ondrej Pavelec on the injured reserve list with what head coach Paul Maurice is calling a "significant knee sprain," the team announced Monday.

Pavelec was injured in a collision with Arizona Coyotes forward Shane Doan on Saturday. Maurice said they hope the 28-year-old will return by January or February.

The Jets recalled goalie prospect Connor Hellebuyck from the AHL's Manitoba Moose on Sunday, as well as forward Joel Armia, a 2011 first-round pick, on Monday. Armia has six points in 14 AHL games this season.
