Legacies: Zach Parise in position to surpass father's career point total

Following his 17-year NHL career, Jean-Paul Parise spent some time in the Minnesota North Stars organization before leaving the NHL to become the hockey director at Shattuck-St. Mary's prep school in Faribault, Minn.

The list of Shattuck-St. Mary's alumni includes Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, and J.P.'s son, Zach Parise.

The younger Parise established himself as an elite scoring option in seven seasons with the New Jersey Devils before returning home and signing with the Minnesota Wild in 2012.

Zach has maintained his pace as a regular 30-goal scorer in his time in Minnesota, but a knee injury has slowed him down this season, keeping him out of action since Nov. 5 and limiting him to 12 of 20 games.

Even still, Zach is on track to catch his father on the league's all-time scoring list. J.P. totalled 594 points in 890 NHL games, while Zach has accumulated 575 in 703.

Hypothetically, if Zach were to return to the ice on Dec. 7 at Colorado, and maintain his career scoring average of .82 points per game, he'd equal his father's mark on Jan. 25 in his hometown of Minnesota where he and his father planted their roots and established themselves as pillars of the hockey community.

Unfortunately, J.P. died earlier this year and won't be on hand to see that, but he's surely proud of the way his son's carried on his legacy.
