Jets promote Hellebuyck after Pavelec injury

Bruce Fedyck-USA TODAY Sports

The Winnipeg Jets recalled goalie Connor Hellebuyck from the AHL's Manitoba Moose one day after Ondrej Pavelec left a game against the Arizona Coyotes with a lower-body injury.

Pavelec was seen leaving the MTS Center on crutches after a second-period collision with Coyotes captain Shane Doan. An update on Pavelec's condition is expected from head coach Paul Maurice later Sunday, according to Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun.

Michael Hutchinson entered the game in the third period and was credited with the win after Chris Thorburn's short-handed game-winner.

If Pavelec is out for an extended period, it could be a huge opportunity for Hellebuyck who's one of the NHL's most highly regarded goaltending prospects. Despite a 2-7-0 record, the 22-year-old is sporting an impressive .927 save percentage and 2.41 GAA in 10 appearances with the Moose.
