Report: 3 Canadian teams seeking outdoor games in 2017

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

With the NHL's 100th anniversary now just two years away, a trio of Canadian cities have reportedly expressed interest in hosting outdoor games in 2017.

Elliotte Friedman discussed the interested parties during Saturday's "Headlines" segment on Sportsnet.

"Outdoor games, there's a lot of teams that want them," Friedman said. "At least three Canadian teams: Montreal in November, Ottawa in December, and Toronto in the previous January are trying to see if they can get outdoor games that year."

The Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, and (then) Toronto Hockey Club were the three teams that competed in the league's inaugural 1917-18 season. Toronto went on to win the Stanley Cup, defeating the PCHA (Pacific Coast Hockey Association) champions, the Vancouver Millionaires.
