Bruins' Chara says team needs to return to consistent play

According to Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, there is a fundamental reason for the team's playoff absence last season.

The Bruins missed the postseason for the first time since the 2006-07 season -missing out on the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference by two points.

"The most frequent word that came out of last season was inconsistency," Chara told Comcast Sportsnet's Joe Haggerty. "It's what we have to work on, not having ups and downs."

Inconsistency is what sparked management to make some moves this offseason, and though Chara admits it was hard to see some of the team's familiar faces shipped out of town, it wasn't necessarily a surprise.

"(It's) tough to see guys being gone, but we all saw management announce they were making changes to try and improve the team," Chara said.

The 38-year-old also noted that he is feeling healthy as he begins to skate with the team, a relief to the club who had played 19 games without Chara's 6-foot-9 frame on the back-end last season.
