Blackhawks' Danault undergoes hip surgery, out 4 months

Chicago Blackhawks prospect Phillip Danault underwent hip surgery Monday and is expected to be held out of hockey-related activities for approximately four months, the team confirmed Tuesday.

That timetable puts his projected return date in mid-to-late December, more than two months into the 2015-16 season.

Danault - selected 26th overall by Chicago in 2011 - appeared in his first two NHL games with the Blackhawks last season.

The 22-year-old center also scored 13 goals and added 25 assists in 70 games with the AHL's Rockford IceHogs last season, with whom he has spent parts of the last three campaigns.
