Devils' Cammalleri to wear No. 13 after departure of superstitious Lamoriello

Jean-Yves Ahern / USA TODAY Sports

The team nickname itself was enough devilry for Lou Lamoriello.

With the long-time New Jersey Devils president and general manager now with the Toronto Maple Leafs, his old-school - and apparently highly-superstitious - approach no longer applies.

And now Mike Cammalleri is taking advantage. The veteran will tempt fate, switching to jersey No. 13 for this upcoming season - a number that has never been worn by a Devils player.

Lamoriello - whose time with New Jersey spanned four decades - was opposed to having a player wear the number, according to Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record.

He mustn't worry about voodoo in Toronto, though, as Mats Sundin's No. 13 jersey hangs from the rafters.

Well, wait - come to think about it. Maybe Sundin's number will rest, hauntingly, in Lamoriello's field of vision across from his perch at the Air Canada Centre.

Uh oh.
