Stars' Patrick Sharp on being traded: 'I knew it was coming'

The Dallas Stars formally introduced Patrick Sharp Monday.

The team acquired the forward from the Chicago Blackhawks along with Stephen Johns in exchange for Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt, and though getting traded is always shocking, Sharp admits the deal was something he saw coming.

"I knew it was coming. When I was traded from Philadelphia to Chicago, I knew that was coming also, and it still comes as a shock. When it actually happens, there are a lot of different things going on. You are trying to take care of your family, your friends, and your personal situation,” Sharp told reporters. “I can't say anything bad about the Blackhawks. I really enjoyed my time with the Hawks. I've grown into the person I am today because of that organization."

Despite being with a new team, Sharp will be joining many familiar faces in Dallas, including captain Jamie Benn and forward Jason Spezza.

"I played with Jamie (Benn) at the Olympics and World Championships with Hockey Canada. Jason Spezza and I are represented by the same agency, so we have been in touch the past few days,” Sharp said. “Of course, Antti Niemi is there now and there are a couple of guys I've met playing in the league over the years."

Sharp had 16 goals and 43 points in 68 games last season before winning his third Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks.
