Flames GM Brad Treliving said Tuesday that signing Giordano (biceps) to a contract extension is the organization's "No. 1 priority," Roger Millions of Sportsnet reports.

Analysis:

Giordano remains under contract through the end of the 2015-16 season, but after the blueliner was the runaway favorite for the Norris Trophy prior to tearing his biceps in late February, the Flames obviously want to lock him up long term before he hits the open market. There was some hope that Giordano might have been able to return during the Flames' second-round series loss to the Ducks, but the 31-year-old said that the Western Conference Finals was considered the more realistic target. In any event, Giordano should be healthy by the time training camp rolls around, making him a candidate to be among the first defensemen selected in fantasy drafts next season.
