Penguins' Letang 'making some progress' in recovery from concussion

Kris Letang was having a career year before a late-season concussion took him out of action.

The blow was a big one for the Pittsburgh Penguins, who struggled defensively without one of their top D-men, losing to the New York Rangers in the first round of the postseason.

Letang joined NHL Network's "NHL Live" on Friday discuss how his recovery is going.

"I'm doing great, making some progress," Letang said. "I've had a lot of meetings with different doctors, and time will get me better, and obviously I want to be ready for training camp."

The 28-year-old was eager to get into the first-round playoff series against the Rangers, but it wasn't something the Penguins were interested in.

"I wanted to play real bad because I started to feel really good after two, three weeks," Letang said. "They just didn't allow me to play, and they wanted to make sure long-term that it was the right choice."

The defenseman sustained the concussion in late March after absorbing an awkward hit from Arizona Coyotes forward Shane Doan.
