NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at Calgary
Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonas Hiller turned aside 28 shots and the Calgary Flames posted a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks in Game 4 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series.
Jiri Hudler had a goal and an assist, while Johnny Gaudreau and Sam Bennett both posted goals for the Flames, who now hold a 3-1 lead in this best-of- seven series thanks to a pair of home wins.
"It's going to be a tough game in Vancouver so we've got to step up," said Hiller. "As long as we stay calm and play our game, we'll have a good chance."
Henrik Sedin had the only goal of the game for the Canucks, who saw starting goaltender Eddie Lack get pulled after he allowed three goals on seven shots in the first period. Ryan Miller was flawless in relief with 15 saves.
"The last one is the toughest one to win for them, so we'll focus on Game 5 with all the pressure on the," said Vancouver defenseman Kevin Bieksa.
Game 5 of this series is set for Thursday night in Vancouver.
All the scoring in this game came in the first period, and the first three goals were on the power play.
Calgary drew first blood just 3:23 in with Ronalds Kenins in the box as Hudler chipped the puck out front from behind the net where Dennis Wideman quickly whipped it over to the right side and Gaudreau one-timed it home.
Vancouver answered just under five minutes later with a power-play marker of its own when Sedin's low wrister from the right circle found its way between the pads of Hiller.
The Flames, though, went back on the power play when Nick Bonino was whistled for roughing at 9:02, and the team took the lead 18 seconds later when Wideman's big blast big blast from the left circle was tipped in by Hudler.
Calgary made it a 3-1 game with 41.3 seconds left in the opener as Joe Colborne brought the puck in down the middle and passed it over to the right where T.J. Brodie fired a shot on net that Bennett got a piece of as he crashed the net for his second of the series.
Miller was in net to start the second period and he kept his team in the game as he stopped six shots, but Vancouver was able to muster just three shots in the frame.
Vancouver generated a lot more chances in the third and threw 15 shots on net, but Hiller turned all of them aside.
His best save came inside of 30 seconds to play with Vancouver skating 6-on-5, as he made a sliding right pad save on a Jannik Hansen wrister from the slot.
