Report: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins won't play for Canada due to fractured foot
Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will not play for Canada at the upcoming IIHF World Championship due to a fractured foot, according to TSN.
Nugent-Hopkins, the first overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, recorded 24 goals and 56 points in 76 games with the Oilers in 2014-15.
The 22-year-old performed for Canada at the 2012 event where he racked up four goals and six points, but the team stumbled to a disappointing fifth-place finish.
Canada named 19 players to its roster Tuesday, including Nugent-Hopkins' Oiler teammates Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall.
