Johan Larsson was demoted to AHL Rochester on Monday to finish the season.

Larsson was reassigned to AHL Rochester on Monday.

Analysis:

Larsson turned it around after being named Buffalo's No. 1 center down the stretch, finishing with 16 points in 39 games and 12 penalty minutes. Previously pigeonholed as a checking-line player, Larsson has blossomed offensively in the AHL and showed that he can score in the NHL when used in the right situations. However, the organization already sees Connor McDavid and Sam Reinhart as its future top two centers. Given Larsson's performance, it's unlikely the Sabres will relinquish his rights. A strong finish to the season with Rochester will further solidify Larsson's case, and a poor finish won't really tarnish his reputation. He has little left to show in the AHL.
