NHL Game Summary - Carolina at Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Cam Ward made 27 saves in the Carolina Hurricanes' 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.

Brett Bellemore, Ryan Murphy and Jordan Staal scored for the Hurricanes, who have won four straight against Philadelphia. Defenseman Keegan Lowe was sent to the penalty box twice for fighting in his NHL debut.

"He did a good job. He competes, and we know he's a competitive player and he was competitive tonight," said Hurricanes coach Bill Peters of Lowe.

Ray Emery stopped 24-of-26 shots for the Flyers, who had a seven-game point streak snapped.

Bellemore gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead at 12:48 of the first when he deflected Eric Staal's point shot past Emery.

Murphy's one-timer from the top of the left circle made it 2-0 at 12:51 of the third. A high-sticking double-minor on Flyers defenseman Michael Del Zotto set up the power-play goal.

With Emery on the bench for an extra attacker, Sean Couturier tipped Mark Streit's shot from the point past Ward at 16:19.

The Flyers had one more chance when captain Claude Giroux hit the post with less than a minute to play.

"To be honest I shot it and I couldn't even see what was going on," said Giroux. "I heard the post and it was a nice pass by Jake [Jakub Voracek], but I don't know I was hoping for a little better bounce there."

Jordan Staal sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 38.4 seconds remaining.
