NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Vancouver
Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - John Klingberg scored the game-winning goal with 47 seconds left in overtime to power the Dallas Stars to a 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
Klingberg took a pass from Trevor Daley, stepped up into the slot and fired a shot over Eddie Lack's blocker to seal the outcome.
Tyler Seguin tallied a goal and an assist, Jamie Benn and Patrick Eaves also lit the lamp and Trevor Daley and Cody Eakin each supplied two assists for the Stars, who bounced back from Friday's 4-0 loss to Edmonton to win for the fifth time in their last six games.
"It's a gutsy effort by our team," said Benn. "We found a way to win in overtime."
Kari Lehtonen made 32 saves for Dallas, which now sits six points behind Winnipeg for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference with six games remaining.
Nick Bonino and Radim Vrbata each provided a goal and a helper and Chris Higgins scored for the Canucks, who have dropped their last two games, but hold a three-point lead on the Kings for second place in the Pacific Division.
"We control our own destiny and have a big week coming up," Bonino said.
Eddie Lack stopped 36-of-40 shots in defeat.
Seguin took a pass off the boards from Daley, skated in up the right side and coasted into the slot, where he wristed a low shot past Lack for a 3-2 with 5:35 to play.
After Seguin went off for slashing, Lack was pulled to give Vancouver a two- man advantage. Vrbata corralled a loose puck from a crowd in front and fired a shot over Lehtonen's shoulder with 1:32 to play, sending the game into overtime.
Dallas wasted no time getting on the board as Benn fired home the rebound of Seguin's shot just 1:54 into the game.
Bonino, however, tied the game by finishing off a 2-on-1 with Vrbata by wristing a shot over a diving Lehtonen with 8:42 left in the first.
Higgins gave the Canucks a 2-1 lead just past the midway point of the second period by deflecting Dan Hamhuis' point shot past a sprawled Lehtonen while on the power play.
In the third, Jason Spezza was stopped by Lack on a wraparound attempt, but Eaves was there to tap the puck in for a tied game 7:55 into the frame.
