Jonas Gustavsson's first start of March ended after 40 minutes Sunday.
The Detroit Red Wings netminder allowed four goals on 23 shots in the opening two periods against the Boston Bruins before leaving the game. Jimmy Howard started the third period after Gustavsson did not emerge from the dressing room.
Gustavsson was hit by Milan Lucic early in the second period and may have been shaken up. Lucic received a goaltender interference penalty on the play.
Red Wings coach Mike Babcock told reporters after the contest that Gustavsson was hurt and Petr Mrazek would be recalled from the AHL.
