Shane Doan: Coyotes' rebuild is 'not my ideal situation'

Mark J. Rebilas / USA Today

Arizona Coyotes forward Shane Doan isn't fond of the club's overhaul.

"It was not my idea, not my ideal situation," he told reporters Tuesday. "There's no one that's 38 years old that thinks it's a good idea, let's rebuild."

He then clarified the comment:

Doan is in the third year of the four-year, $21.2-million contract extension signed in 2012.

The Coyotes traded veterans Keith Yandle, Antoine Vermette and Zbynek Michalek prior to Monday's trade deadline.

They have the third-worst record in the NHL at 20-36-7, including nine consecutive losses and 11 defeats in their last 12 games.

The captain was conflicted when asked about Yandle's departure.

Doan is in his 19th year in the league, all spent with the Coyotes organization. He has 12 goals and 18 assists in 61 games this season.
