Damon Severson: (Ankle) Hoping To Play Friday

Severson took part in his first full practice with the Devils on Monday since fracturing his ankle in December, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.

Analysis:

The rookie got off to a hot start to his NHL career in October with seven points in his first eight games, but he cooled off shortly thereafter and then suffered the long-term injury. He's taken nearly twice as long to recover from the fractured ankle as the Devils anticipated, but his return to practice signals that he's nearly ready to play. The Devils have ruled Severson out from playing in Tuesday's game against the Predators, but the blueliner said he's targeting a return to the ice for Friday's tilt with the Blue Jackets. He'll need to increase his activity in practice over the next few days before a ruling on his status for Friday is made.
