Las Vegas ticket drive reaches 5,000 commitments in less than 2 days

Hockey is a hot ticket in Las Vegas.

A ticket drive launched by prospective owners for an NHL franchise in Vegas has received 5,000 commitments since it began on Tuesday, which is half of the goal set by lead investor Bill Foley and his partners, the Maloof brothers.

"All the seats in all the sections are selling really well. They’re pretty evenly distributed," Foley said in a prepared statement, shared by Alan Snel of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"We’re off to a good start. We hope to see the Las Vegas community rally around this great cause and continue to buy deposits."

The Foley-Maloof group is seeking at least 10,000 season-ticket deposits in order to prove to the NHL Board of Governors and Commissioner Gary Bettman that the market can support a pro-hockey franchise.

High-profile names such as Floyd Mayweather and UFC president Dana White have come on board.

Bettman is on record as saying the league is intrigued by Vegas as an NHL market, and the early numbers suggest there's considerable interest from the citizens of Sin City.
